Listen people, there’s no way this is going to actually be a weekly thing. But I’m on to my 2nd one in almost as many weeks, so who knows. Maybe I can keep it going for a bit. Here’s some stuff I’ve seen going on this week (give or take).
Cal Post Announces New Album Taping – Toronto, you definitely don’t want to miss Cal Post’s Album Recording – Saturday, August 20th at Toronto Yuk Yuk’s – the host of the longest running and best room in Toronto, Spirits Comedy Post has been honing his happy-go-lucky hatred for all mankind into a wonderfully unique comedy act that’s definitely ready to roll some Sound and Cameras on. One of the smartest, most interesting perspectives in Canadian Comedy and a fantastic writer, both shows Saturday will be recording for his first album.
Sunee Dhaliwal Special Taping
I was backstage at the old Vancouver Yuk Yuk’s when I first met Sunee Dhaliwal. It was his first night ever performing comedy. He had seen a clip of me on Youtube and thought I was a rock star, and was packed with the hopes and dreams indicative of a new comic. He went onstage and absolutely destroyed his first ever set, and pretty much every other one after that, becoming one of the fastest rising stars in the country. Stay tuned for the release of his new special “Broken Dreams” – by the sounds of it the youthful idealism is gone… and that’s usually when a comic gets really good.
Edinburgh Fringe Festival – In typical Pete Johansson style, Katherine Ferns alerted the Canadian comedy scene to the fact that the back of Pete’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival Poster was chalk full of selfless promotion of his fellow Canadians and artists. In related news, Pete launched his new podcast The Atomic Brain recently, and we’re sure there’s going to be a tonne of great episodes and guests coming out of Edinburgh so subscribe now.
Brian Aylward Moves To SE Asia (Gets Drunk With Me) – Newfoundland born Comedian Brian Aylward is one of my favourite people and stories in Canadian Comedy. Brian began his stand-up comedy career while teaching ESL in South Korea, and was instrumental in launching what has become a gigantic comedy scene in SouthEast Asia. While I tried to keep up with his ability to drink pints of beer in the middle of the day, we talked about his new comedy special in the works, and big plans for his new home in Thailand and across Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Stay tuned…
Mayce Galoni Turns The Fire Up On The Sirius XM Competition – After fellow #TopComic competitor, Runner-up at this year’s JFL Homegrown Competition, and actually talented rapper, Chris Robinson dropped a hilarious accapella battle rap challenge to the competition, we reconnected with our old hip-hop producer friends from our Vancouver days, who happen to be living in Galoni’s hometown of Hamilton now, and put together a little response. Because as much as we love Chris Robinson, we’re not releasing his first album in September!
Clifford Myers Starts Writing (Publicly) – The hilarious 2nd guy in that music video is named Clifford Myers – he’s one of the real hidden gems in Canadian Comedy, and we’re really excited about what the next year has in store for Clifford. He’s recently started writing regularly, showcasing his incredible heart, intellect, originality and sincerity that have made him beloved and admired by the comedy community in Ontario. We first had someone send us a video of Myers’ stand up not long after shifting to Toronto and we’ve had our eyes on him ever since. It would appear the monstrous talent is ready to step up his game, and nothing but good things can come of that.
Jean Paul’s Comedy Revival Hits Durham Region – You’d be hard pressed to find someone as likeable, hard-working and talented in the industry as Jean Paul, and he’s put together an all-star line-up playing tonight.

Heckler” stories from his days on the road in small town Alberta. Rob headlines Yuk Yuk’s Calgary from August 18th-20th and Yuk Yuk’s Edmonton August 26th – 27th
Bryan O’Gorman Launches New Podcast And Tour! – One of the kings and founders of the now renowned and iconic Toronto Pot Comedy Scene, O’Gorman has since become a world-traveled, seasoned headliner, and just launched his first two episodes of “The Sunday Purge” while simultaneously hitting the road with the new “Sex, Drugs and Comedy” Tour with fellow heavyweights K. Trevor Wilson and Ryan Dennee.
Bryan O’Gorman On Religion is definitely one of the best recorded comedy bits from a Canadian comedian ever.
