Top Canadian Comedians

There’s nothing better than sitting down in front of the TV and watching your favorite comedy show, whether it’s Friends, Two and a Half Men or The American Office. There are so many great comedy shows on TV, and Canada is lucky to be home to some of the world’s best comedy actors of all time.

Comedians like Mike Myres, Jim Carrey and John Candy are all so well known and have starred in hit comedy films. If you have something like The Mask or Austin Powers on the TV, you’ll probably be laughing too much to be able to concentrate on your [FoxyBingo] game or your tweet. Let’s take a look at some of Canada’s most well loved and successful comedy actors.

John Candy
Candy was born in 1950 in Toronto Ontario, and is a much loved Canadian comedian. The actor began in Toronto’s Second City Comedy then eventually moved to Second City Television. It wasn’t until the 80′s that Candy started to appear in films. Some of his most popular films were The Blues Brothers, Stripes and Ghostbusters. He went on to co-star in films like Uncle Buck and Trains and Automobiles.

Mike Myers
This Scarborough-born star trained at Second City’s famed training centre which has produced comedians such as Stephen Colbert and Steve Carell. Carey soon became a regular on Saturday Night Live as well as SNL where he performed his most famous character, Wayne Campell. His Wayne skit rocketed Myers into movie stardom when it was made into a feature film. He followed this up with the classic comedy trilogy Austin Powers, before voicing the character of Shrek in the animated Dreamworks films.

Jim Carrey
Carrey very quickly became a head-liner at Yuk Yuk’s – a stand up comedy club in Toronto. He had a few parts in little known movies before he landed his role in 1994′s Ace Ventura, Pet Detective. Since then he’s been the leading man in dozens of movies and has worked with numerous leading ladies such as Jennifer Aniston and Nicole Kidman.
